What is Forex position sizing?
Forex position sizing is working out how large a position (in lots or units) to trade so that a stop-loss being hit costs no more than the maximum amount you're willing to risk. Because Forex is always quoted as one currency against another, the dollar value of a pip move (and therefore the correct position size) also depends on the currency your account is denominated in.
In Pips mode, enter the stop distance yourself. In Prices mode, enter the planned entry and stop-loss prices and Saviqor derives the pip distance before using the same sizing calculation.
Standard, mini, and micro lots
A standard lot is 100,000 units of the base currency, a mini lot is 10,000 units (0.10 lots), and a micro lot is 1,000 units (0.01 lots). Saviqor sizes positions in 0.01-lot increments. See the lot-step note below, or what 0.01 lot size is worth in dollars for worked examples.
Pip value
Pip value (in a pair's quote currency) is the position size in units multiplied by the pair's pip size. For example, a 100,000-unit (1 standard lot) position in a pair with a 0.0001 pip size is worth $10.00 per pip in the quote currency. If your account currency differs from the quote currency, the calculator converts this value into your account currency, using either an automatic daily reference rate or a rate you enter manually.
Standard vs. JPY pip size
Most pairs use a pip size of 0.0001 (the 4th decimal place). Pairs quoted against the Japanese yen, such as USD/JPY, use 0.01 (the 2nd decimal place) instead, since JPY has a much smaller unit value. The calculator applies the correct pip size automatically based on the pair you select. There is no separate setting to change.
Account-currency conversion
Three cases are possible. If your account currency matches the pair's quote currency (e.g. a USD account trading EUR/USD), no conversion is needed. If your account currency matches the pair's base currency (e.g. a EUR account trading EUR/USD), the calculator asks for the pair's own natural price ("1 EUR = ? USD") and inverts it internally. Otherwise (e.g. a CAD account trading EUR/USD), it asks for the quote-to-account rate directly ("1 USD = ? CAD").
Automatic reference rate and manual override
When a conversion is required, Saviqor defaults to an automatic daily reference rate (European Central Bank rates via the Frankfurter API) and shows the rate, its direction, its source, and the date it was published. This is a once-daily reference estimate for convenience — not a live market quote and not the rate your broker will fill at. You can switch to Manual rate at any time to enter your broker's own rate, which always states which direction to quote it in. If the latest reference rate is more than 96 hours old, Saviqor will not use it to size a position automatically and asks you for a manual rate instead.
The calculated risk is based on the inputs and conversion rate shown. Your actual loss can differ because of commissions, spread, slippage, price gaps, and the exchange rate your broker applies.
0.01-lot assumption and broker minimums
Saviqor assumes your broker supports 0.01-lot (1,000-unit) trading increments. This is a common assumption, but not a universal broker rule. Some brokers require a larger minimum, others allow finer increments. Verify your broker's actual minimum trade size before placing an order.
Worked examples
EUR/USD, USD account, $10,000 balance, 1% risk, entry 1.10000, stop 1.09800: Prices mode derives a 20-pip distance. Entering 20 directly in Pips mode produces the same result: 0.50 lots (50,000 units), $5.00 per pip, and $100.00 calculated risk (1.00% of the account).
EUR/USD, CAD account, C$10,000 balance, 1% risk, 20-pip stop, at a conversion rate of 1 USD = 1.35 CAD (whether from the automatic daily reference rate or entered manually): the calculator recommends 0.37 lots (37,000 units), for a calculated risk of CA$99.90 (0.999% of the account), just under the C$100.00 budget, since 0.37 is the largest 0.01-lot-aligned position that doesn't exceed it.
FAQ
Do you use live exchange rates?
No. When a conversion rate is needed, Saviqor uses a daily reference rate (European Central Bank rates, published once per working day and redistributed by the Frankfurter API) purely as a convenience. It is a reference estimate, not a live market quote or an executable broker rate. You can switch to a manual broker rate at any time, and if the latest reference rate is more than 96 hours old Saviqor stops using it automatically and asks you for a manual rate.
Why do you need my account currency?
Pip value and dollar risk are only meaningful in the currency you actually hold. If your account currency differs from a pair's quote currency, the calculator converts pip value into your account currency, using either the automatic daily reference rate or a manual rate you enter.
What if my broker's minimum lot size is different from 0.01?
Saviqor assumes your broker supports 0.01-lot (micro-lot) increments, which is common but not universal. Check your broker's actual minimum trade size before placing an order.
Do you support JPY pairs?
Yes. USD/JPY and the JPY crosses (EUR/JPY, GBP/JPY, AUD/JPY, NZD/JPY, CAD/JPY, CHF/JPY) are supported. JPY-quoted pairs use a pip size of 0.01 instead of the standard 0.0001; the calculator applies this automatically based on the selected pair.
